Washington DC
We’ve been in DC the past week. Originally we were going to go to Vermont but there’s no snow (thanks to the present administration) so at the last minute we decide to go to DC. I was last here in junior high school and Anna was last here when she was a little kid. We checked out the Spy Museum, the National Galleries and spent a day at the Holocaust Museum. There was an exhibit on Babi Yar, a mass grave near where I grew up and a long piece on the S.S. St. Louis. That’s the ship DelGaudio’s grandmother was on during world war 2. I didn’t see anything about her but then I don’t know her name.
The coolest thing so far has been a visit to the NPR headquarters. It’s a personal Mecca. We got a tour and got to see actual NPR personalities like Steve Inskeep conduct interviews. We also found out that some of our favorite spontaneous sounding shows are edited. I just never considered it though in the back of my mind I knew car talk was a call back show. I’d be into trying to get some work there except I don’t really want to live in DC.
At the end of the tour I volunteered to do a promo for NPR which will be aired nationally on affiliate stations when they have pledge week. Too awesome. I was a little nervous but they’re going to mix down my interview to a 30 second sound byte, take the better bits.
Pictures once I find my digital camera cable!
