Open Planning Project Internship

When: Summer 2006
TOPP is a non-profit organization founded to promote thoughtful urban planning and encourage increased public participation via open source technology development. In the public mapping realm, Google brought embedded maps to the general public but these services aren’t truly free. They APIs can be restrictve and work off price prohibitive street data.

With the popularity of these APIs, users expect their maps to look like Google maps. TOPP built Google Maps SLDs on top of MapServer and OpenLayers to create a Google Maps “look and file” over free U.S. Government Tiger Line data.

Involvement: Python coding, SLD Development
