Yenta Squid

When: Spring 2006
The Yenta Squid project is an attempt to create an alternate interface to the popular classifieds website, craigslist. Users of the 3 dimensional, virtual world control a matchmaking squid, opening treasure chests directly connected to personal ads on craigslist. Inside each treasure chest is a photograph of an individual looking for their match online. When the user, as the squid, decides two people would be a good match, he initiates an email, sent to the two people that have been matched. The email tells them that the matchmaking squid thinks \"they would be a good match\" and that they should get to know each other.

As technology becomes more ubiquitous, as electronic devices no longer come with off switches, it becomes much easier to slip between the virtual and the real. The Yenta Squid gives us a glimpse of everyday tasks through the lens of new avatars and interfaces.
